Entertainment: My Review on "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy"

After a year-long self imposed exile to Hawaii following the events of the 2009 MTV VMAs, Kanye West released in late November of last year to high critical acclaim. Now it is time for my take on "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy".
MBDTF catches your attention immediately as it opens up with the energetic track ,"Dark Fantasy", which by far is my favourite out of the entire album.
The musical style of the MBDTF seems to take different elements from Kanye's past albums: The luxurious soul of The College Dropout, the symphonic pomp of Late Registration, the gloss of Graduation, and the emotionally exhausted electro of 808's and Heartbreak (Entertainment Weekly).
The 13-track album begins with "Dark Fantasy", which also is my favourite track. It demonstrates West's ability as a producer, sampling "In Higher Places" by Mike Oldfield, and adding his own melodies to it.

It relieves me as a fan to hear Kanye rapping again after the departure from his usual work into singing on 8o8's and Heartbreak. The best examples of Kanye's recognizable style are "Power" and "All of the Lights". When

The lyrical content of this album is substantially darker compared to his previous works. The theme encompasses, as always, where Kanye West is at the moment. That is to say, the theme is influenced by what he is feeling at the time. Personally, I am not too fond of excessive profanity, usually skipping tracks 10 and 11 whenever I listen to the album. The time, it appears, is at the height of fame and fortune, as well as controversy.

In short, I think that you should buy this album if you are familiar with Kanye West or hip-hop in particular. (cop-out conclusion)

(this post was a draft for almost a year, which explains why its late).
